According to Cendrine Marrouat (2022), Gibran had to Americanize his name when he moved to Boston with his mother and siblings in 1895 at the age of 12. He died very young, at the age of 48, due to “cirrhosis of the liver with incipient tuberculosis”. He nevertheless has a worthy life, because he is the third-most widely read poet in history, after Shakespeare and Lao-Tzu.
