Singapore Airlines prepares extra flights for Jakarta, sixth daily flight for Bali

S

ingapore Airlines is adding capacity to its routes linking Changi International Airport with Soekarno-Hatta International Airport for the Idul Fitri holiday season by inserting an additional flight.

Meanwhile, the airline member of Star Alliance will add a sixth daily flight to I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport serving top tourist destination Bali.

“There are two periods for the Idul Fitri extra flight. The first period is on April 16-21 while the second period is from April 26 to May 3,” Singapore Airlines public relations manager in Indonesia, Kleopas Danang Bintoroyakti, told The Jakarta Post.

The Idul Fitri extra flight will use a Boeing 777-300ER widebody aircraft with a three-class configuration consisting of four first-class seats, 48 business-class seats and 212 economy-class seats for a total capacity of 264 seats.

Flight SQ 960 leaves Singapore at 3:15 p.m. and arrives at 4 p.m. while the returning trip, flight SQ961 leaves Soekarno Hatta International Airport, which serves the Greater Jakarta region, at 5 p.m. and arrives at Changi International Airport at 7:50 p.m. All times are local time.

Currently, Singapore Airlines fly six times a day to Jakarta using the 777-300ER three times daily and Airbus A350-900 also thrice daily.

The A350-900 is configured in a long-haul, three-class configuration without the prestigious first class. The Airbus widebody aircraft consists of 42 business-class seats, 24 premium-economy class seats and 187 economy-class seats for a total of 253 seats.

More flights to Bali

Danang also said Singapore Airlines would commence its sixth flight serving I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport starting July 1.

“The sixth flight will be using a Boeing 737-8 MAX with a capacity of 154 seats consisting of 10 business-class seats and 144 economy-class seats,” he said.

The sixth flight will depart Singapore on July 1 at 9:20 p.m. and is scheduled to arrive in Bali at midnight as flight SQ 948.

“The aircraft will remain overnight [RON] in Bali and the returning flight is as SQ 949 at 7:20 a.m. the following day,” Danang said.

Flight SQ 949 is scheduled to arrive in Singapore at 10 a.m. All times are local.

Currently, Singapore Airlines flies five times daily to Bali, with one flight daily using the Boeing 737-8 MAX.

The remaining four flights use the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner four times a day, Danang said.

The Boeing widebody aircraft flies a two-class configuration consisting of 36 business-class seats and 301 economy-class seats for a total of 337 seats.

Danang said the additional flights were part of Singapore Airlines’ commitment to bringing more tourists to Indonesia.

“We hope that there will be more and more tourists coming to Indonesia with the additional flights,” he said.

On March 24, Emirates, the world’s largest operator of the world’s largest passenger airplane Airbus A380, announced that it would fly the super jumbo jet daily to add capacity to Bali starting June 1. Currently, Emirates operates Boeing 777-300ER twice daily to Bali.
