A Cambodian court sentenced an American businessman Tuesday to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing nine underage girls.

Judge Khy Chhay of Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced Brian David Naswall after he was convicted on charges of purchasing child prostitution for his sexual abuse of nine girls ranging from 5 to 15 years old from 2011 to 2015.

Naswall, 53, is the CEO of Aero Cambodia, a small aviation company based in Phnom Penh.

Poverty and poor law enforcement have made Cambodia a magnet for foreign pedophiles, but over the past decade the authorities have increasingly cracked down on sex offenders.

Naswall's lawyer, Mon Vimean Champa, said she would confer with her client on whether to file an appeal.

Naswall was arrested in May last year in a park in Phnom Penh in the company of three girls, one of whom he was engaging in sexual activity with. He has been living in Cambodia for 12 years and is married to a Cambodian woman.
