View all search resultsirst place wins by two Indonesian judokas, Muhammad Syaiful Raharjo and Iksan Apriadi, resulted in the national anthem “Indonesia Raya” being played at the 29th Southeast Asia (SEA) Games in the KLCC arena in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
Syaiful defeated Malaysian Wei Fu Chong to win the men’s under 66-kilogram, while Iksan outclassed Vietnamese Tan Cong Nguyen to snatch the under 73-kg title.
Both Iksan and Syaiful acknowledged it was a tough competition.
“I spent a night just watching a recording of my opponent. I studied his moves and looked for his weaknesses,” Syaiful told The Jakarta Post after the match.
However, Syaiful said his toughest opponent was his first opponent in the competition, Japanese-born Philippine athlete Shuken Nagano.
“Shuken almost broke my arm, but I survived,” he said.
Iksan said he realized that his opponent was more powerful than him and that he had to find a way to defeat him by using some tricks.
