Internet, TV and radio disrupted in Myanmar after apparent military coup

yanmar's state broadcaster said Monday it has been unable to provide regular broadcasts on TV or radio, in what could be a sign that the military is disrupting airwaves.
A spokesman for the ruling National League for Democracy said Monday that Myanmar's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained by the military along with other senior party officials.
Internet connections were also severely disrupted Monday as Suu Kyi was detained by the military in an apparent coup, according to an independent monitor.
"The telecommunication disruptions, beginning approximately 3:00 am Monday morning local time, have significant subnational impact including the capital, and are likely to limit coverage of events as they take place," said the Netblocks civil society group.
Myanmar's military has detained Suu Kyi and the country's president in an apparent coup, a spokesman for her ruling party said Monday.
The dramatic escalation came after weeks of rising tensions between the military, which ruled the country for nearly five decades, and the civilian government over allegations of fraud in November's elections.
The military last week signalled it could seize power to settle its claims of irregularities in the polls, which Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) party won easily.
Myo Nyunt, the spokesman for the NLD, said Suu Kyi, along with President Win Myint, had been "detained" in the capital Naypyidaw.
