Malaysia's Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will resign on Monday, news portal MalaysiaKini reported, citing a cabinet minister.
Muhyiddin will submit his resignation to the king on Monday, according to Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, a minister in the prime minister's department, MalaysiaKini reported on Sunday.
Reuters could not immediately reach Mohd Redzuan. The prime minister's office did not immediately respond.
Earlier however Mohd Redzuan denied speculation that Muhyiddin will be tendering his resignation following a meeting earlier with ministers and deputy ministers.
Redzuan pointed out that Muhyiddin never called for the Cabinet to attend a special meeting earlier, when in fact he as a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia supreme council member had only received an invitation to attend a party meeting tomorrow, Malay Mail reported on Saturday.
In another report by Malaysiakini, a source was quoted as saying that Muhyiddin is scheduled to have a royal audience around noon on Monday.
Muhyiddin, whose support among MPs has been questioned, offered yesterday a raft of reforms to the opposition ahead of a confidence vote he promised to table in Parliament next month.
