NE Women’s Strawweight World Champion Xiong “The Panda” Jing Nan has a perfect record in the stacked division and has held the gold for over four years.
Now, the Chinese star will look for her eighth successful World Title defense when she meets ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee for the third time in the main event of ONE Fight Night 2 on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Their storied series currently sits at 1-1, and the combat sports world will be watching with bated breath when these two divisional queens square off once again.
Here we break down three of “The Panda’s” most dominant performances inside the Circle, performances that demonstrate she’ll be able to get the job done in her rubber match at ONE Fight Night 2.
#1 Defeating Tiffany “No Chill” Teo
Xiong met “No Chill” at ONE: KINGS OF COURAGE in January 2018, with both stars bidding for the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight World Championship.
"The Panda” was relentless in her attack on Teo and landed combination after combination. The bout was waved off in the fourth round, when it became clear that the Singaporean competitor couldn’t take any more.
On that night, Xiong not only became a ONE World Champion, but also China’s first-ever MMA World Champ. She also later defended her belt against Teo in October 2020, putting to rest any notion of a potential trilogy between the two.
#2 Ending Samara Santos
Xiong enjoyed a home-field advantage in her second World Title defense against Samara Santos in China at ONE: BEYOND THE HORIZON in September 2018.
Santos held her own until the third round of the thrilling tussle, but “The Panda” was determined not to disappoint her compatriots.
She scored with multiple flurries and eventually finished the Brazilian challenger in round three by knock out (KO).
#3 Finishing Angela “Unstoppable” Lee
“The Panda‘s” first meeting with Lee was a fiery scrap that almost went the distance.
Xiong put her belt on the line against “Unstoppable” at ONE: A NEW ERA in March 2019, and the two traded heavy blows for five rounds. Lee looked comfortable at the heavier weight class for most of the bout until the World Champion took control in the final stanza.
Xiong then punished her challenger's body with kicks and punches, eventually forcing the referee to intervene and hand “The Panda” the win.
Before Xiong meets Lee in their much-anticipated trilogy bout at ONE Fight Night 2, catch all the action at ONE 161: Petchmorakot vs. Tawanchai on Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
