Anies Baswedan, the presumptive winner of the Jakarta gubernatorial election, made a conciliatory gesture on Thursday by holding a meeting with defeated candidate and incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama at City Hall, following a bitterly contested election that divided the city along religious and racial lines.
Jokowi’s electability at 58 percent, as indicated by several pollsters last month, will not guarantee him a victory in his bid for reelection, particularly when his influence failed to help Ahok win over more voters.
Jakarta governor candidate Anies Baswedan is set to meet his rival, incumbent Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, at City Hall on Thursday morning as quick count results suggest the former won the Jakarta gubernatorial runoff election on April 19.
