View all search resultsOf the government's 35,000 megawatts (MW) program, power plants with a combined capacity of 1,358 megawatts were in operation as of Jan. 15, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry spokesman Agung Pribadi said in a statement on Sunday.
They are concerned that renegotiating the signed PPA may create confusion among investors, and this would not be good for the investment climate in Indonesia, which is pursuing an electricity generation target of 35,000 megawatts (MW).
State-owned electricity company PLN has so far signed contracts with a number of private companies for the construction of power plants with a capacity of generating 31,000 megawatts, as part of the implementation of the government’s program to procure an extra 35,000 MW of electricity by 2019.
According to a Committee for the Acceleration of Priority Infrastructure Delivery (KPPIP) estimate, the government will only be able to construct new power plants with a combined capacity of around 15,000 megawatts (MW) by 2019, less than half of its 35,000 MW target.
PLN president director Sofyan Basir has denied that the state-owned electricity company was facing any problems in implementing the government's 35,000-megawatt power generation project by 2019, and that it was ready to move forward with the project, as reported by tribunnews.com on Friday.
