View all search resultsPrime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Monday that New Zealand's Muslim community should be the focus of any film about the Christchurch mosque attacks after some people raised objections to a movie focussing on her response to the bloodshed.
The 16-year-old -- picked up in December -- made "detailed plans and preparations" to mount the attacks using a machete on March 15, two years after a shooting rampage in Christchurch by Australian white supremacist Brenton Tarrant, security officials said.
There were no obvious warning signs when the Christchurch mosques gunman moved to New Zealand from Australia in 2017 -- he had no criminal history and was not on any security watch list.But 29-year-old Brenton Tarrant will now go down in history as New Zealand's first convicted terrorist, and the first person in the country ever sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
