View all search resultsWith the pandemic continuing to deter people from leaving the safety of their homes, tourist attractions in Labuan Bajo and other areas outside Komodo National Park in West Manggarai regency in East Nusa Tenggara will offer free entry until July 31.
“In 2020 we will start implementing a membership system for tourists coming to Komodo Island. Visiting tourists must obtain the membership card issued by the administration,” said the head of the East Nusa Tenggara Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, I Wayan Darmawa.
The East Nusa Tenggara provincial administration is determined to boost the local tourism industry as it is now in the process of developing digital platforms aiming to bolster efforts to promote tourism.
East Nusa Tenggara governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat has proposed an annual membership fee to access Komodo National Park on Komodo Island as the administration seeks to restore the popular tourist destination’s prestige.
To keep up with the influx of tourists into one of the “new Balis” of Indonesia while still maintaining conservation standards, the government has decided to make KomodoIsland an “exclusive” destination with “premium” pricing for access, the proceeds of which will be used for conservation and community development programs.
