In April, many students vented frustration on social media over the unprecedentedly difficult national exams, claiming that the questions posed were starkly different from what they had been taught during months of preparation prior to the exam.
While many surveys have shown Indonesia has a lot to do to improve its education, particularly when compared to its regional peers, most Indonesian parents, at least in urban areas, are optimistic the nation’s education is good enough to ensure a safe future for their children, according to a recent survey.
Indonesia’s result in the OECD Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA 2015 report, shows some improvements in the skills of students. In particular, girls are performing better than boys in all subjects: science, literacy, mathematics. They are significantly better in reading.
