View all search resultsDefense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin announced a plan for Indonesia and Australia to develop trilateral security cooperation agreements involving Papua New Guinea and Japan, as well as a defense training facility in North Maluku.
The $120-million effort will link northern and southern Papua New Guinea and the Bougainville autonomous region with high-capacity cables, Peter Tsiamalili, PNG's acting minister for information and communications technology, said on Friday.
The fresh defence agreement will be signed by Prime Ministers Anthony Albanese and James Marape on Wednesday in Port Moresby, part of celebrations to mark 50 years of Papua New Guinea's independence from Australia.
