Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani spoke with Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar and protested Israeli attacks against its personnel and infrastructure in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), an Italian statement said.
Andrea Tenenti said Israeli attacks on the peacekeeping force known as UNIFIL with tank shells and small arms fire had left two wounded members in hospital and knocked out some of their monitoring capabilities on Wednesday and Thursday.
UNIFIL, which has about 10,000 peacekeepers stationed in south Lebanon, has called for a ceasefire since an escalation between Israel and Lebanese militant group Hezbollah on Sept. 23, after a year of cross-border fire.
Several Blue Helmets have been wounded in the crossfire between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah movement, which has also left dozens of Lebanese civilians dead in fallout from the war between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza.
The Indonesian Military (TNI) has declared its readiness for a deployment on a peacekeeping mission to the Gaza Strip following a statement from Defense Minister and president-elect Prabowo Subianto on Indonesia’s willingness to send such a force to enforce a cease-fire in the war-torn region.
