View all search resultsA coalition of human rights organizations and former attorney general and respected human rights defender Marzuki Darusman, have officially requested that the National Commission on Human Rights (KomnasHAM) investigate alleged arm sales by state-owned arms manufacturers to the Myanmar junta, which they say potentially took place after the 2021 coup.
State-owned enterprises are keen to meet the military’s needs for locally made equipment as instructed recently by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, with some of the defense firms still filling previous orders.
Defense firms said they were trying to fulfill existing contracts with buyers, while also shifting some of their operations to produce essential medical products, such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilators, following a Defense Ministry instruction to support the government in tackling the outbreak.
State-owned weapons manufacturer Pindad has developed several medical devices and equipment to boost the country's capacity in the fight against coronavirus amid great demand of supplies in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
