rench weapons manufacturer Nexter Defense System has expressed its commitment to a long-term partnership with the Indonesian government to build a domestic weapons industry system.

"We will work together in terms of the supply chain and infrastructure side," said Nexter Asia export sales director Amaury de Poncins in Versailles, France, recently, as reported by cnnindonesia.com news website on Tuesday.

He said that his company aimed to build a sustainable system for Indonesia by working with Indonesia’s local engineers through knowledge and technology transfers instead of only selling weapons.

De Poncins highlighted the importance of trust between France and Indonesia to realize the partnership and technology transfer.

Previously, on Jan. 29, the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and partnership agreement with several institutions, including Nexter.

During the event, the company’s director for Southeast Asia, Thomas Gerard, said that his party was ready to be a strategic partner for Indonesia in defense equipment procurement.

"Nexter is pleased to strengthen a long-term strategic industrial partnership with the Indonesian Military [TNI] and the Indonesian defense industry through technology and manufacture transfer in Indonesia on several land defense areas, such as large-caliber ammunition and artillery systems to ensure a high level of localization," Gerard said, as quoted by liputan6.com news website.
