The National Police revealed on Friday that the man suspected of stabbing the chief security minister, identified only as SA or Abu Rara, is an untrained member of homegrown militant group Jamaah Ansharut Daulat (JAD) — which had shown no signs it was planning to commit such a violent act.
The perpetrators of the attack should be punished for the crime and for posing a threat to the nation. We cannot pretend as if nothing wrong has happened to this country, or else the evil acts will repeat in a more destructive way.
Local figures and state officials have called on the residents of Wamena in Jayawijaya, Papua, to resume with their normal activities without fear for their safety as authorities have guaranteed security following deadly riots that caused tens of thousands to flee their homes.
