“Based on our interviews with several witnesses, Novel and other KPK officials often use excessive force [in their investigation],” Setara Institute chairman Hendardi said. “Which is why we concluded that this could cause resentment and result in someone taking revenge.”
The acid attack against Novel Baswedan was no ordinary crime with the top Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator the sole victim. It was, first and foremost, an attack against a state-sanctioned body established for a single mission: to root out chronic corruption plaguing the archipelago.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has given the National Police a deadline of three months to discover who attacked the Corruption Eradication Commission's senior investigator, Novel Baswedan, with acid two years ago, which still remains a mystery despite a six-month probe by a special fact-finding team.
After six months of work, a fact-finding team formed by National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian has failed to identify any suspects behind an acid attack against top Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan.
