View all search resultsIndonesian carriers are yet to be hit by a surge in demand amid the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, according to an industry association, though many flights to Europe are filling up quickly ahead of the Idul Fitri holiday in mid-March, despite exorbitant price hikes.
Coordinating Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said that, over the past two weeks, the Transportation Ministry, PT Angkasa Pura, Pertamina and domestic airlines had been collaborating to make air travel more affordable.
Low-cost carrier Sriwijaya Airlines and Nam Air are offering a special price of Rp 170,000 (US$11.82) for all domestic routes for tickets purchased on Nov. 10 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., while other airlines are also offering discounts.
As airlines’ ticket sales disappear, so does the daily cash intake from those sales, which even the most well-capitalized airlines need to pay their bills. Unfortunately, the bills haven’t gone away, although the revenue to pay them has.
