View all search resultsIndonesian carriers are yet to be hit by a surge in demand amid the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, according to an industry association, though many flights to Europe are filling up quickly ahead of the Idul Fitri holiday in mid-March, despite exorbitant price hikes.
sian airlines and flights are seeing a surge in both bookings and ticket prices as travelers switch from Middle Eastern carriers amid the escalation of the joint United States and Israeli strikes on Iran, which has temporarily paralyzed key transit hubs in Gulf states.
“With travelers scrambling for alternative routes, Asian airlines are benefiting from the current situation as it becomes increasingly difficult to find available seats,” Budijanto Ardiansjah, chairman of the Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (Asita), told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
Budijanto added that major regional carriers such as Singapore Airlines and Air China were now fully booked on popular routes in Europe, where Emirates and Qatar Airways generally had a large market share.

If the situation continued, he said, demand “could build further” ahead of the Idul Fitri holiday in the third week of March, when millions of Indonesians are expected to travel for traditional family unions.
“If flights continue to be fully booked, Asian carriers could see an extended peak season through the end of March,” Budijanto said.
The conflict widened on Wednesday when a US submarine sank an Iranian warship off Sri Lanka, killing at least 87 people, and NATO air defenses shot down an Iranian ballistic missile fired toward Turkey, according to international news agencies.
