View all search resultsFighting between Thailand and Cambodia entered its fourth day on Thursday as both sides waited for a promised telephone call from United States President Donald Trump, who says he believes he can again end the conflict between the two Southeast Asian nations.
Thailand's foreign minister said in an interview on Tuesday that he saw no potential for negotiations in the border conflict, adding the situation was not conducive to third-party mediation, while a top adviser to Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet told Reuters his country was "ready to talk at any time".
Jakarta and Dili have been negotiating their land borders since 2002, shortly after Timor-Leste formalized its independence following a United Nations-supervised referendum in 1999. More than two decades later, both countries have yet to reach a full agreement on their land boundary, particularly concerning the Noel Besi-Citrana and Bidjael Sunan-Oben segments.
