The firm detected PlugX malware, believed to be operated by a group called Mustang Panda, operating within the networks of Indonesian government agencies, cybersecurity publication The Record reported on Sept. 10.
The Jakarta Police’s cyber unit questioned government critic Ravio Patra on Thursday about the alleged hacking of his WhatsApp account after he was charged for incitement after a message was sent from his number on April 22 calling for nationwide riots.
“After an internal investigation, we found that the reports currently circulating were sourced from a data breach attempt last year. There have been no new incidents,” Bukalapak corporate communication head Intan Wibisono told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday
His arrest will likely go down in history as one of the worst blunders made by the National Police in their war against fake news and online hate speech, the ailments of the digital world that activists say are used by the powers that be as a pretext to undercut civil rights.
