hai and Bruneian citizens can now visit Taiwan visa-free under a one-year-trial program aimed at strengthening relations with Southeast Asia.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said that starting Monday, holders of Thai or Bruneian passports could enter Taiwan for up to 30 days without needing to obtain a visa.
To be eligible for visa-free entry, visitors must have a passport valid for at least six months, no criminal record in Taiwan and a ticket out of the country as well as a visa for that destination, if required.

The ministry will conduct a review at the end of the trial to decide whether to make the program permanent.
The trial is part of the Tsai Ing-wen administration's New Southbound Policy, which aims to pivot towards South and Southeast Asia.
MOFA said that on the principle of reciprocity, it would continue to ask the two countries to grant visa-free treatment to R.O.C. passport holders.
