elu regency, a crossborder area in Atambua in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is set to hold the Tourism Ambassador beauty pageant on June 10.

“The 2017 Tourism Ambassador and Puteri Pariwisata will promote Indonesian tourism and invite citizens of neighbouring Timor Leste to come and shop in our country,” said Belu Tourism Agency head Johanes Andes Prihatin, adding that the region currently welcomed around 20,000 tourists every year, most of which hailed from Timor Leste with the rest from other Southeast Asian countries.

Registration for the pageant opened in mid-May with auditions set to run until June 9, while the grand finale is slated for June 10.

The pageant winner will represent the regency at the provincial level competition.

“Belu regency came second at the Tourism Ambassador NTT beauty pageant in 2015. Hopefully we can achieve a better accomplishment this year,” said Johanes. (kes)
