Up to 40 kite groups from Java and Sumatra will reportedly join the event, which will see 2D, 3D, traditional and dragon-shaped kites roam the sky above the beach.
“The kite festival in Purworejo is a national event initiated by the Purworejo Tourism and Culture Agency. The event serves as entertainment during the Idul Fitri holiday season as well as to promote Purworejo’s main tourist attraction,” said the Tourism Ministry's official in charge of marketing development, Esthy Reko Astuti.
