Thousands Islands is slated to host Tidung Festival 2017 on August 19 to 20.
The festival that is supported by tourism ministry’s archipelago marketing development, Avian paint brand, and Bank Indonesia will have music, cultural, culinary and traditional games events as well as competitions and environmentally friendly activities such as the planting of 1000 mangrove seeds and beach clean-up.
“There are competitions such as cooking, vlogs and selfies, photography, Betawi traditional dance, traditional games, homestay coloring, boat creation and bike decorating competitions. Music group Dua Mahadewi is also going to entertain visitors,” said tourism ministry's archipelago marketing development deputy, Esthy Reko Astuti.
“This festival aims to introduce Thousand Islands as a leading marine tourist destination for the local and international audience, this is what we’re exploring in the festival,” added Esthy.

Moreover, the event also has a mission to push for more investment from private companies to develop the marine tourism at Thousand Islands and making it into a local and international tourist destination that houses plenty of aquatic ecosystems while also preserving them.
Tidung Island that is located in South Thousand Islands district is included in the ministry’s 10 Priority Destinations list.
According to the data from tourism ministry, the number of international tourist visits at the Thousand Islands increases significantly. In 2016, there were around 24,000 international tourists who visited the place, compared to the previous year that only had 10,000 visits.
“Other innovations will follow suit, such as cultural, shopping, nature, sports and research tourisms. They will shape up the local culture that in turn can help in boosting the tourism at Tidung Island and making it a leading tourist village in Thousand Islands,” Esthy added. (asw)
