Bintan welcomes 880 Singaporeans for religious tourism

A total of 880 Singaporean youth took part in this event and traveled to Bintan using ferry boats that departed from Tanah Merah Terminal.

intan Lagoon Resort in Bintan recently hosted a religious MICE event called NCC Gen Rev Youth Camp 2017 from August 29 to September 2.

A total of 880 Singaporean youth took part in this event and traveled to Bintan using ferry boats that departed from Tanah Merah Terminal.

“They arrived on August 29, afternoon time and stayed at Bintan Lagoon Resort,” said tourism ministry's archipelago marketing development deputy, Esthy Reko Astuti.

“For three days, they will take part in a string of religious activities and will be back to Singapore on September 2. All of the 430 rooms at the resort are booked for this group, some even have to rent a villa because the place can’t take everyone in,” added tourism ministry's head for convention and meetings promotions and overseas marketing deputy, Eddy Susilo.

The room price at Bintan Lagoon Resort is Rp 2.7 million ($202) per night, whilst the rent price for a villa is Rp 6,144,000 per night.

For tourism minister Arief Yahya, Bintan is one of the success stories of cross-border tourism in Indonesia and is popular for its man-made attractions such as sports activities and events.

“Indonesia has been recognized as a favorite destination in the ASEAN region with one its popular destinations apart from Bali is Bintan. Bintan has proper MICE facilities, it has hotels, resorts and world-class golf courses as well as a ferry port,” said Arief.

Several successful events that had been held in Bintan include IRONMAN, Bintan Triathlon, Tour de Bintan, Golf Asia Challenge, Moon Run Festival and Reebok Spartan Race Bintan. (asw)
