Guangzhou - Manado flight route, favorite among Chinese tourists: Lion Air

About 20,768 tourists from Guangzhou city in China came to North Sulawesi within the months of January until October.

am Ratulangi International Airport in Manado, North Sulawesi welcomed 422 international flights within the months of January until October 2017. From the total number, Lion Air contributed 241 flights and then followed by Silk Air with 152 fligths and Citilink with six flights.

According to the airport’s general manager, Minggus Gandeguai, flight routes to China still dominate the market with 110 flights from Lion Air. About 20,768 tourists from Guangzhou city in China came to North Sulawesi within the months of January until October.

Lion Air Manado general manager Irwan Arland said that the Guangzhou route has always been a favorite, reflected by the occupancy rate that is up to 100 percent.

“For other cities, it’s around 80 to 90 percent,” Irwan said.

Moreover, data from the North Sulawesi Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the number of international tourists who came in August was 8,886 people, higher than the previous month that welcomed 7,305 tourists.

“It’s up 12 percent from the previous year that had 7,904 overseas tourists,” said Edy.

The increase has created a positive impact towards the hotel industry.

“We’ve been fully booked these last three months. Other than companies who like to hold meetings, we’ve also welcomed plenty of overseas tourists,” said Arya Duta Hotel Manado executive secretary Yona Lontoh. (asw)
