Thousands of people attended the Weh Island Night (WIN) Carnival 2017 that was held in Sabang, Aceh on Nov. 29.

A total of 1,200 participants took part in the event. The parade began with the marching band performance from the Naval Academy.

“This event promotes the works of artists and designers in Sabang and Aceh. They have extraordinary skills and this event can become their platform to be creative and wow the visitors,” said Tourism Ministry’s archipelago tourism marketing development deputy Esthy Reko Astuti.

After the cultural parade, there were fashion competition and dragon dance performance from the team who won the bronze medal at the National Sports Week (PON) 2016 in West Java.

Designer Nabil Kartin was the winner of the fashion competition with her costume that highlighted the underwater of Rubiah Island. Nabil brought home eight million rupiahs ($590.40) from the competition.

“I didn’t expect that I would win the first prize, I bring up the theme of underwater of Rubiah Island because I want to promote the underwater beauty of Sabang seas, especially during Sail Sabang event,” said Nabil.
