p until the third quarter of 2017, Silangit International Airport in North Sumatra has recorded 2,912 flights, a 29 percent increase from the same period last year.
“On average there are 14 domestic and international flights every day using A320, CRJ1000, AT72 and B737-500 airplanes, while the total passengers reached 200,000 people. The target for this year is 250,000 passengers, a 60 percent increase from 2016,” explained Transportation Ministry's air transportation director general Agus Santoso.
The target is likely to be achieved especially since Batik Air is offering a new route from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Silangit International Airport. Launched on Dec. 1, the new route serves one flight every day and uses an Airbus A320-200 NEO airplane that can accommodate 12 business class and 144 economy class passengers.
Agus added that safety, security and comfort are among the most important factors to consider and his team is ready to oversee these three things.
“We are ready to oversee and maintain the flight safety not only at Silangit but also all over Indonesia. This October we did a USOAP safety audit with International Civil Aviation Organization ([ICAO] and we got a good result which is 81.15 percent above average. This shows that flight safety in Indonesia is really good,” he added. (kes)
