aruda Indonesia's low-cost subsidiary Citilink received the top honor at the 2017 Transportation Safety Management Award, an annual event held by the Transportation Ministry. 

As reported by kompas.com, Citilink scored the highest in various aspects, including organization, transportation facilities, human resources and safety management support. Citilink Indonesia's award covered full service and medium service airlines. 

"This award is a testament to the success of Citilink Indonesia in building a safety and risk mitigation culture, applied comprehensively to all flight activities," Citilink Indonesia president director Juliandra Nurtjahjo said as quoted in a press release on Wednesday.

Juliandra said the carrier regularly took steps to ensure that all flight activities were carried out in accordance with civil aviation standard operating procedures (SOP), emphasizing safety and security. 

The award was presented by the ministry's secretary general Sugihardjo, who said the annual award ceremony had been held since 2015 to provide motivation for transportation operators in Indonesia to provide the best service for their passengers, especially in terms of safety. 

Sugiharjo added that Indonesia had successfully improved the quality of its flight safety.

According to an audit conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Indonesia's flight safety rating has improved dramatically, jumping from 151st in 2016 up to 55th place in 2017. (liz/kes)
