A passport is a representation of a country, which is why it often includes features of the nation's unique identity, such as its animals, flora and landscapes.
Here is a list of the world’s 10 most beautiful passports, as compiled by kompas.com:
If you look at the inside of a Norwegian passport under ultraviolet light, you will see an image of the northern lights shimmering above a range of mountains.
Designed by Neue design studio with the Norwegian landscape as its concept, the passport cover consists of three bold colors: white, red and blue.
According to citylab.com, each color has a meaning: white for immigrants, red for the country’s citizens and blue for diplomatic relations.

At a glance, the Australian passport may look like any another passport, when placed under UV light, its papers reveal five pairs of kangaroos that appear to be floating when the passport is tilted at a certain angle.
Flip through the pages of a Finnish passport and you’ll see the moving animation of a moose at the bottom right corner.
The Hungarian passport also has hidden surprises that are revealed under UV light: the musical score and lyrics of one of the country’s national songs, Szozat.
Many of Canada’s national treasures can be seen when the country’s passport is placed under black light. Among the illustrations shown are maple leaves, historical buildings, historical figures, fireworks and the Niagara Falls.

Within its blue-gold cover, the Indonesian passport features different illustrations on each page. Among them are the Komodo dragon, the large Rafflesia flower, a shadow puppet, ondel-ondel (giant Betawi effigies) and angklung (bamboo musical instrument).
The Irish passport’s new design contains illustrations that represent the country, such as Irish music, dance and some of its landmarks, including Croagh Patrick and Croke Park.
The Swiss passport boasts modern and daring design that utilizes the country’s national flag. Switzerland is also said to be the first in designing its passport professionally.
Under black light, the Chinese passport reveals an illustration of the Great Wall surrounded by stars.
Unlike most countries that chose either red or blue as the color of their passport covers, New Zealand listened to the Rolling Stones and painted it black – with silver embellishments. Still, it has been listed as one of the most powerful passports in the world. (wir/kes)
