aduy Dalam village has attracted more and more tourists who want to witness its natural beauty and the daily activities of the Baduy tribe. Located in Leuwidamar district, Lebak regency, Banten, the Baduy tribe still closely adheres to its traditions.
Bearing in mind that the village is located deep in the woods, KompasTravel has made a list of what to plan if you’re interested in paying a visit.
1. Prepare physically
Baduy is divided into two parts, Baduy Luar and Baduy Dalam, which consists of 65 villages. To reach those places, the only mode of transportation for visitors is walking.
Baduy’s Friend Community founder Keke said the most important thing to remember is your physical stamina. “Visitors must bear in mind that [getting here] is no picnic. The distance is quite far and can be considered trekking, so be prepared,” said Keke to KompasTravel in Balingbing village, Banten, last week.
2. Prepare your supplies
Once you’re certain your body is up to the task, be ready with the necessary equipment, such as comfortable and sturdy shoes, as you will walk on a rocky path. There’s a chance the rocks will become slippery when it rains.
Bring along raincoats, jackets, backpacks, flashlight and sleeping bags.
3. Bring your own food
If you’re planning to spend the night at a local's house, bring your own food as there are no food stalls in the village.
In the daytime you can find meatball sellers from outside the village, but when night falls, you are expected to prepare your own food.

4. Obey the rules
The Baduy tribe holds their traditions in high regard, so visitors are expected to do the same. There are a number of rules you must obey in Baduy Dalam.
One of the tribe’s figures, Ayah Mursid, said to KompasTravel that visitors must not take pictures or record videos in Baduy Dalam. They are also prohibited from using soap, shampoo or toothpaste when bathing in the river.
Keke added that visitors are expected to respect and observe the rules, as well as the Baduy tribe’s local wisdom.
5. Do not litter
Keke said there is a strict ban on littering. Visitors must bring their trash back home.
“The Baduy tribe deeply respects nature. Thus, please respect their rule on littering. Do not clog the village with garbage. Visitors are expected to take care of their trash and bring it home with them,” said Keke. (wen)
