Tourists visiting Ternate, North Maluku, may want to go to the foothills of Mount Gamalama, known locally as ron gunung.
Ron gunung was among the most popular activities in Ternate, according to Antara.
Ternate Culture and Tourism Agency head Samin Marsaoly said almost every tourist in the area does ron gunung.
Tourists can do it individually or with a tour guide, using either a car or ojek (motorcycle taxi). The cost is relatively affordable as ojek is only priced at Rp 100,000 (US$6.93), while a car rental fee is Rp 300,000.

During the 44-kilometer journey, tourists can visit various historical monuments, such as the Oranje, Tolukko, Kastela and Kalamata forts as well as Ternate Sultanate Kedaton.
The foothills are also a home to picturesque beaches and lakes, namely Tobololo, Sulamadha and Jikomalamo beaches as well as lakes Tolire and Ngade.
The trip also offers panoramic views of the volcanic mountain as well as nutmeg and clove plantations.
Samin said the Ternate city administration was currently revitalizing the facilities, such as toilets and parking spaces. (jes/kes)
