ilkAir, a regional wing of Singapore Airlines (SIA), announced its collaboration with Northern Ireland-based Thompson Aero Seating for upgrades to its business class seats on the airline's Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The upgrade is among the investment programs offered leading up to a merger between SilkAir and SIA.

Announced in May last year, the upgrades will start in May 2020 and provide “lie-flat seats in a forward-facing staggered layout”. It is similar to SIA’s regional business class on its Airbus A350-900 medium-haul and Boeing 787-10 aircraft. The new seats will be installed in five 737 MAX 8 planes and 32 other similar aircraft that are still on order.
