everal holiday resorts in Karo regency, North Sumatra, have been gearing up to welcome the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, competing to offer attractive entertainment events to visitors.

Taman Simalem Resort (TSR) general manager Eddy Tanoto said TSR had prepared a number of events to attract visitors, such as DJ performances and a fireworks party.

“We have prepared various interesting programs for the entire holiday season for tourists wanting to enjoy the 2020 New Year in Taman Simalem Resort,” Eddy told The Jakarta Post in Medan, North Sumatra, on Monday.

Eddy said the resort would also host a dinner reception on Dec. 24 accompanied by a Christmas choir, as well as hold a number of traditional games on the eve of the 2020 New Year and a food bazaar from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, 2020.

Sibayak Internasional Hotel general manager Dedi Nelson said that as of Monday, 70 percent of the property's rooms had been booked. He said usually, all the rooms would be fully booked a day prior to New Year’s Eve.

Dedi added that this year’s booking ahead of Christmas and New Year was 5 percent higher compared to previous years, thanks to the decreasing volcanic activities of Mount Sinabung.

“The decrease has had a positive impact on tourist visits to Karo's Berastagi district and our hotel's occupancy rate," Dedi said, adding that it had prepared a food bazaar to be held on Dec. 24-30 at the hotel’s pool side.

The hotel management is said to also offer vouchers to visiting guests that would allow them to choose their favorite dishes.

“This is part of our strategy to spoil our guests,” he said. (yun/kes)
