Thousands of visitors flock to TMII, Ancol during second transitional PSBB
On the first weekend of the second transitional PSBB, thousands of visitors reportedly flocked to tourist sites across the city, including the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) cultural park in East Jakarta and Taman Impian Jaya Ancol (Ancol Dreamland Park) in North Jakarta.

ourist attractions in Jakarta, such as Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) cultural park in East Jakarta and Taman Impian Jaya Ancol (Ancol Dreamland Park) in North Jakarta, have resumed operations since Oct. 12, following the reintroduction of transitional large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).
On the first weekend of the second transitional PSBB, thousands of visitors reportedly flocked to tourist sites across the city.
TMII public relations head Sahda Silalahi shared on Sunday that the park had welcomed 3,000 visitors on Saturday and more than 7,000 visitors on Sunday.
Sahda said, as quoted by antaranews.com, that most visitors were bicyclists.
Meanwhile, Taman Impian Jaya Ancol corporate communication manager Rika Lestari told kompas.com that the amusement park and tourism complex had welcomed 7,094 visitors on Saturday afternoon.
Rika added that in the pre-coronavirus days, the complex usually welcomed an average of 30,000 to 40,000 visitors on weekends.
Tourist attractions in Jakarta are required to limit visitor capacity to 25 percent in the second transitional PSBB, in an attempt to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Sahda said that similar to the first transitional PSBB in Jakarta, TMII had tried to limit the number of visitors to below 20,000 from a normal capacity of 70,000 to 80,000 visitors.
She explained that limiting the number of visitors would allow visitors to practice physical distancing while visiting the 34 anjungan (pavilion) and recreational rides.
The TMII management has yet to open the whole area to visitors.
Keong Mas Cinema, for instance, is slated to resume operations this weekend, while the management is still preparing health and safety precautions for the swimming pool.
Sahda also mentioned that the cultural park had provided a waiting area in the parking lot and garden to avoid exceeding capacity limits.
“We will count the number of visitors [coming to the park]. If it has reached capacity, we will ask new visitors to wait near the entrance,” Sahda said.
Meanwhile, Taman Impian Jaya Ancol has applied several new regulations in the second transitional PSBB, which includes the opening of the beach for swimming.
Rika said, “In the second transitional PSBB, visitors are now allowed to swim at the beach while following the health protocols.”
She said the management was aware that residents of Jakarta had missed the benefits of spending time at the beach during the PSBB period.
Both TMII and Ancol managements have asked visitors to practice the “3M” health protocols, which include mask wearing, hand washing and physical distancing. (jes)
