ussian diplomats have held a meeting with Indonesian officials to discuss a peace initiative in Ukraine, the Russian news agency TASS has reported, quoting a source in the Kremlin.
"Such a meeting did take place," the source confirmed on Tuesday. "There are no details yet," he said without disclosing who participated in the meeting.
The report came out two days after Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto proposed a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine, calling for a demilitarized zone and a United Nations referendum in what he called disputed territory.
In a speech at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore over the weekend, Prabowo also called on defense and military officials from around the world to issue a declaration calling for a cessation in hostilities.
Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov, who was attending the two-day summit, flatly rejected the proposal.
"It sounds like a Russian plan, not an Indonesian plan," he was quoted by AFP. "We don't need this mediator coming to us [with] this strange plan."
TASS also reported that Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said Russia would consider all incoming proposals on the settlement in Ukraine, including from Indonesia.
