Representing Indonesia, Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto called for the Group of 20 members to take collective action in supporting lasting peace in Gaza amid an armed conflict that has killed more than 11,000 in the past six weeks.
Indonesia has called on world leaders during a Group of 20 meeting to pull their weight and help realize the two-state solution to end the ongoing violence in Gaza.
During the G20 virtual leader’s summit on Wednesday, the last meeting during India’s presidency this year, the conversation mostly hovered around the Gaza conflict. The summit was attended by numerous world leaders, including the prime ministers of Australia, Japan and China and presidents of Russia, Turkey and Brazil.
Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto, who represented Indonesia on behalf of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, said during the meeting that the G20 members must be able to take collective action, particularly regarding the realization of the two-state solution, to help bring about an end to the conflict in the region.
“To put it bluntly, where’s our voice on the atrocities taking place on Palestinian land? As leaders of the G20, what we have done collectively to make the situation better, for the Palestinian people and the Gaza region?” Airlangga said during the summit.
“We have to support the realization of the two-state solution based on agreed-upon international parameters,” he continued.
Indonesia has long been a staunch supporter of Palestinian independence and diplomacy to push for the two-state solution – a vision to create independent states of Israel and Palestine.
