Egypt has requested Indonesia to send field hospitals to treat wounded Gazan refugees and to postpone the deployment of a hospital ship due to space constraints at Egyptian ports.
efense Minister Prabowo Subianto said on Friday that Egypt had requested Indonesia to provide field hospitals to treat wounded refugees from Gaza as Israel continues its all-out assault on the besieged Palestinian territory.
“I will ask for direction from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on the request,” Prabowo said at the Atang Sendaja Air Force Base in Kemang district, Bogor regency, West Java, on Friday.
“We will discuss whether or not to send field hospitals. But one thing for sure, there was a request to delay the hospital ship deployment because the Egyptian defense minister said they could not accommodate it in the next few weeks.”
Prabowo was speaking on the sidelines of a handover ceremony of eight H225 heavy transport helicopters to the Air Force’s 8th Squadron.
Prabowo said his office had coordinated with Egyptian Defense Minister Mohamed Ahmed Zaki about Indonesia sending humanitarian relief for Palestinians, including ships carrying the aid.
“The Egyptian defense minister asked us to hold the shipment because there are so many ships waiting to berth, as they are carrying food and other supplies,” said Prabowo.
Despite so many ships queuing to berth, Egypt said more food aid was still required.
