Indonesia’s defense minister and president-elect Prabowo Subianto has revealed that the country is stepping up its efforts to send significant humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, amidst Israel's intensified bombardment of the Rafah crossing that has led to the death of dozens of Palestinians.

Speaking at the Presidential Palace following a meeting with outgoing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday, Prabowo said that Indonesia was ready to operate field hospitals and send medical personnel to the besieged Gaza.

“[Indonesia] will cooperate with several partner countries, especially Middle Eastern countries, that have operated field hospitals in Gaza such as the United Arab Emirates [UAE],” Prabowo explained, adding that Jokowi had assigned him to attend a high-level conference on an urgent humanitarian response for Gaza slated to be held in Jordan next Tuesday.

“[Before heading to Jordan], the president also instructed me to stop by Saudi Arabia,” Prabowo continued, but refrained from explaining his purpose for visiting the country.

The high-level meeting co-organized by Jordan, Egypt and the United Nations aims to boost international support in responding to the crisis in the Gaza enclave, including a commitment to build unified action and address the urgent operational and logistical needs of Palestinians.
