Indonesia will send humanitarian aid worth US$1 million each to Sudan, Yemen, Palestine, and Vietnam.
oordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy announced on Tuesday that the government would send humanitarian aid amounting to Rp 15 billion (US$1 million) each to Yemen, Sudan, Palestine and Vietnam on Oct. 14.
"Indonesia will always strive to help alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters in these nations," Muhadjir said in a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
According to United Nations data, flash floods caused by seasonal rains in Yemen have killed dozens and impacted more than 250,000 refugees since July. Additionally, the decade-long conflict between the government and Houthi rebels has severely damaged Yemen's infrastructure and health services, creating a dire humanitarian situation.
In Sudan, the ongoing conflict between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023 has resulted in over 12,260 deaths and more than 33,000 injuries. The country's health system has collapsed due to insecurity, attacks and shortages of medicine, medical personnel and funding.
Meanwhile, in Palestine, Israeli aggression over the past year has devastated Gaza, leaving more than 50,000 dead, many of them children, and turning the region into ruins.
In Vietnam, Typhoon Yagi, which struck in September, triggered severe flooding, landslides and heavy rains. The storm displaced more than 130,000 people and damaged nearly 137,000 homes.
Muhadjir noted that Indonesia had previously sent aid to Palestine three times, amounting to $4.07 million, and Sudan once, worth $1 million.
