he Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) student choir will participate in the 57th Seghizzi International Choral Singing Competition in Gorizia, Italy, news agency Antara reports.

The international competition will be held from July 20 to 22.

The ITB choir consists of 38 students from different disciplines. The participation will also mark the beginning of the 2018 ITB Cultural Tour, which will see the choir visit other countries, such as Austria, and present Indonesian culture on stage. The tour also seeks to enhance the vocal performance of the choir.

In line with that mission, the choir’s appearance in the singing competition in Italy is aimed at introducing the world to Indonesian culture. The shows will see the ITB students perform in traditional Indonesian costumes, says Timothy Pranata, head of the 2018 ITB Cultural Tour.

Traditional songs will be sung alongside traditional Indonesian dances. The songs’ origins range from Sumatra, Bali and Java to Nusa Tenggara and Papua. As for the attire, the female students will wear traditional clothing from Banyuwangi, while their male counterparts will wear Balinese costumes,” said Timothy.

ITB rector Kadarsah Suryadi also stated that the choir’s role was to be an ambassador of culture.

The students have prepared for the competition since last August, and Pranata expresses hope that the choir would achieve its mission, both in the competition and throughout the ITB Cultural Tour. (anm/wng)
