PLN Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state-owned electricity company PLN, is preparing to kick-start the first hydrogen refueling station (HRS) in Indonesia to reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector.
The HRS, built to absorb “green” hydrogen production from the 21 plants PLN established last year, has reached 98 percent completion and is slated to begin operating in February.
Located in Jakarta, the fueling station in its first stage of operation is equipped for pressure levels of 150 bar and 300 bar, which are to be gradually increased to 700 bar.

PLN president director Darmawan Prasodjo said green hydrogen, or hydrogen derived from water electrolysis using renewable electricity, had a strategic use as an environmentally friendly alternative to oil fuel.
“This proves that we [...] are turning our commitment into reality. Not only [are we providing] electric vehicle charging infrastructure, we are also ready to present the first hydrogen refueling station in Indonesia as an environmentally friendly energy option for vehicles,” Darmawan said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
