B

eyoncé surprised many when she appeared at the Met Gala in New York on Monday wearing a long-sleeved nude latex gown by Riccardo Tisci from Givenchy. The dress matched the event’s theme, "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology".

The Telegraph reported that the diva was supposed to be on her album tour, Formation, but decided to take a night off to attend the prestigious event along with Hollywood stars and designers wearing outfits to suit this year’s Costume Institute exhibition.

According to the paper, the dress was a style departure for Beyoncé, although she has chosen Givenchy to dress her for the last two years.

But her latex dress wasn’t the only surprise of the night, as her husband, Jay Z, was nowhere to be seen.

Media suspected that her solo appearance was the result of an incident that occurred last year, when leaked security footage showed Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles attacking Jay Z in an elevator at the event. According to Vanity Fair, the confrontation could have been sparked by infidelity rumors surrounding the couple.

Previously, Beyoncé stoked speculation about her marriage through the lyrics on her recently released album Lemonade, which talks about cheating and a woman referred to as "Becky with the good hair". (kes)
