new carpooling service is set to be launched in Jakarta this week by PT Uber Teknologi Indonesia that will allow customers going to destinations near one another to share a ride and split the cost.
The app is named uberPOOL, and users will be able to save up to 50 percent if they opt to use the new service instead of UberX, said the company's president director Mike Brown.
"The fare will be more affordable than regular taxis and Uber partners will be able to maximize the time they have to take rides. Jakarta will also benefit from a decrease in vehicles, pollution and parked cars," said Brown in Jakarta on Sunday as quoted by tempo.co.

The company also revealed plans to introduce the service in other Indonesian cities.
According to Uber's newsroom, uberPOOL allows up to two passengers per pick-up location, which means you can bring at least one friend with you when carpooling. Also, if two passengers are picked up together, they must also be dropped off together. To ensure convenience, drivers can take up to four passengers in total per trip. (kes)
