adjah Mada University (UGM) has revealed plans to build a “techno-park” in Kulon Progo regency, Yogyakarta, Central Java.
"The construction will begin in 2018. We are currently preparing research products that will be manufactured at UGM’s mini factory," said rector Dwikorita Karnawati in Yogyakarta on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
The park aims to become a teaching space to promote downstream academic and research products to the public. It is also hoped the park will develop and expand the university's vocational education.

Dwikorita said UGM had developed various health equipment products on a limited scale.
The park will allow these products to be produced on a larger scale to fulfill the needs of the university’s medical school and Indonesia’s healthcare industry.
"Some of the products we develop are trainer robots for post-stroke patients, rubber tubes for hydrocephalus patients and valve rings. However, we only produce a small amount of these things. Hopefully, we will be able to increase production by up to 90 percent to help lower Indonesia's dependency on imported health products," she said.
The park will also develop products for the renewable energy and the communications and information technology sectors.
"We will collaborate with the Kulon Progo regency administration to build the park. Hopefully, we can help boost the local economy," said Dwikorita. (kes)
