T

he German cultural center Goethe Institute is hosting a film festival in Bali until Saturday in collaboration with Bentara Budaya Bali and Sehati Productions.

Centered on the Galeria XXI cinema on Jl. Bypass Ngurah Rai, the German Film Festival opens with a public screening of Coconut Hero (2015), directed by Florian Cossen, which follows the life of a teenager diagnosed with cancer who is abandoned in Canada and wishes that his dream of dying will come true.

"Hopefully the event can showcase the best aspects of the German film industry," said Anna Maria Strauss, the cultural program head at the Goethe Institute in Indonesia as quoted by Antara news agency on Wednesday.

Besides Coconut Hero, eight other films will be screened throughout the three-day festival, including Agonie (2016) by David Clay Diaz, Herbert (2015) by Thomas Stuber and Junges Licht (2015) by Adolf Winkelmann. The selected films, said Strauss, aimed to offer a variety of perspectives and interesting themes.

In addition to Bali, the festival will also take place in Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Makassar. (mra/kes)
