S-based ride-hailing application Uber will start to apply upfront fares for their ojek (motorcycle taxi) service uberMOTOR. The change was previously implemented to its uberPOOL service.

“This service helps our customers to plan what mobility choice best suits their budget,” said Uber Indonesia communications head Dian Safitri as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday. The upfront fares calculate some factors that influence ride fares, such as basic price, price per kilometer and price per minute, including when the traffic is congested.

In addition to the upfront fares, the company also has introduced a new cancellation fee and minimum price. From Tuesday, Uber has applied a new pricing scheme where the basic price has become Rp 1,000 (8 US cents), price per kilometer Rp 1,000 and price per minute Rp 100. Meanwhile, the minimum and cancellation prices will be Rp 5,000 per ride and Rp 5,000 after five minutes of waiting after the order, respectively.

The upfront fares allow customers to find out their total fare before confirming their order as long as they have submitted their location and destination. Customers will still be able to do some changes en route, such as stopping by several places or changing their initial destination, but the upfront fare will no longer be applied. (kes)
