o commemorate the 88th anniversary of the Sumpah Pemuda (Youth Pledge), the State Palace in Jakarta will be hosting a video mapping show, as well as arts and cultural performances, on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Nusantara Berdendang (archipelago singing) event is slated to take place in the palace’s front yard and will be divided into two parts: Napak Tilas Sumpah Pemuda (youth commemoration) and Pentas Kebudayaan (cultural shows).

The former will feature an Indonesia Raya concert involving 88 orchestra and choir members. Gold medalists of the badminton mixed doubles category in Rio Olympic 2016, Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, are scheduled to read the Youth Pledge, which proclaimed the unity of homeland, nation and language. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will deliver remarks highlighting the country's cultural commitments.

The cultural shows will be divided into three stages, namely the national, language and homeland stages. Among the performances are to be ondel-ondel from Betawi, Hudog dances from East Kalimantan, Pa’jaga Makkunrae dances from South Sulawesi and much more.

The head of the presidential secretariat, Darmansjah Djumala, stated in a press release that the event aimed to commemorate and celebrate the Youth Pledge by showcasing arts and culture from across the country.

“By presenting the diverse cultural arts, we expect [people] to realize that when celebrating the Youth Pledge, we also need to appreciate the diversity of our nation’s identity,” said Darmansjah.

The event is free of charge and open to the public. (kes)
